JANUARY 2001

Gaines & Stacey LLP client Patriot Homes, represented by Fred Gaines, received final approval from the Los Angeles City Council for a 44 lot subdivision and corresponding zone change for a new gated, single family home project in Woodland Hills.

FEBRUARY 2001

In February, Fred Gaines was appointed by State Assembly Speaker Robert Hertzberg to a four year term on the Library of California Board. The Board is responsible for the distribution of over $50 million of state funds to library and literacy programs across California.

MARCH 2001

Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at the San Fernando Valley Bar Association's Business Law and Real Property Section Meeting held at the San Fernando Valley College of Law. Fred's presentation was entitled: "When is a Neighbor a Nuisance?"

APRIL 2001

On April 12, 2001, Gaines & Stacey LLP welcomed U.S. Representative Brad Sherman (D-Sherman Oaks) to our offices. Congressman Sherman was the featured speaker at a lunch meeting of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association ("VICA") Federal Issues Committee.

MAY 2001

Lisa Weinberg won an important Superior Court victory for Gaines & Stacey LLP client the Beverly Canon Merchants Association against the City of Beverly Hills. The suit was based on the City's failure to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA").

JUNE 2001

On June 28, 2001, Rebecca Thompson served as Moderator for a panel discussion entitled "Legal Strategies in Mold Contamination Cases." The program was sponsored by the Environmental Law Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

JULY 2001

The July 8, 2001, Edition of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal identified Gaines & Stacey LLP Managing Partner Fred Gaines as one of the Valley's Top 25 Emerging Business Leaders for 2002.

AUGUST 2001

Gaines & Stacey LLP Paralegal and Office Manager Cameron Hardy was sworn in as a California Notary Public. Cammy is a 1993 graduate of Moorpark College and received her Paralegal Certification in 1994 from the W.L. Stephenson Institute.

SEPTEMBER 2001

Sherman Stacey successfully represented Gaines & Stacey LLP clients Stanley and Jean Harfenist in overturning an over $800,000 fine which had been imposed by the California Coastal Commission regarding their property in Santa Barbara County.

OCTOBER 2001

In October, Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at the California Building Industry Association's 21st Select Conference on Industry Litigation in Monterey. Fred discussed the firm's recent Appellate Court victory in the case of Ezell v. City of Los Angeles.

NOVEMBER 2001

Fred Gaines was featured in the November 12, 2001 Edition of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. Fred was interviewed regarding his plans for his upcoming term as Chairman of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association ("VICA").

DECEMBER 2001

Rebecca Thompson was elected a Partner in the firm. Rebecca is a 1992 graduate of the University of Notre Dame School of Law. She is currently the Chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Water Quality Subcommitte.
