JANUARY 2002

Fred Gaines was elected Chairman of the Board of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association ("VICA"). VICA is one of Southern California’s most influential business advocacy organizations representing over 350 member companies in the greater San Fernando Valley area.

FEBRUARY 2002

Kimberly Rible joined Gaines & Stacey LLP as an Associate. Kim is a 2001 graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law and has over ten years of experience as a Certified Paralegal specializing in land use, real estate and civil litigation matters.

MARCH 2002

Managing Partner Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at the CLE International Conference on Regulatory Takings held at the Omni Hotel in Los Angeles. Fred's topic was "Preparing for Litigation During the Administrative Process."

APRIL 2002

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal named Fred Gaines as one of the Top 25 Attorneys in the San Fernando Valley. The only real estate attorney to make the list, Fred was chosen for his expertise in the handling of land use and environmental law matters.

MAY 2002

Gaines & Stacey LLP client Valley Community Clinic, the San Fernando Valley's largest provider of free medical care to needy patients, acquired a new 40,000 square foot facility in North Hollywood. Partner Rebecca Thompson represented Valley Community Clinic in the $6.5 million transaction.

JUNE 2002

Gaines & Stacey LLP celebrated its Fifth Anniversary. Despite its short history, the firm has been recognized as one of the San Fernando Valley's top law firms, and as one of the State's best known land use, zoning and environmental law practices.

JULY 2002

A July 26, 2002, article in the Los Angeles Daily News reported on Fred Gaines' efforts as VICA Chairman to reform the onerous City of Los Angeles business tax system. Working with a coalition of business groups and City officials progress has been made toward simplifying and reducing the burden on City businesses.

AUGUST 2002

Partners Lisa Weinberg and Fred Gaines were successful in obtaining a zone change for a retail shopping center in Northridge owned by Gaines & Stacey LLP client Ramage Enterprises. Lisa and Fred also assisted client Michael Goodrich in gaining approval of a zone change and General Plan amendment for a new 21 unit apartment complex in Valley Village.

SEPTEMBER 2002

Kimberly Rible was selected as a member of the prestigious Valley Leadership Institute's ("VLI") Class of 2003 . VLI provides leadership training and public policy insight for an annually selected class of future community leaders.

OCTOBER 2002

On October 7, 2002, Gaines & Stacey LLP relocated to its new offices in Encino. In its new facilities, the firm has established an Of Counsel relationship with Lewitt, Hackman, Shapiro, Marshall & Harlan, one of the San Fernando Valley's oldest and most respected full service law firms.

NOVEMBER 2002

Gaines & Stacey LLP client The Charles Company was granted summary judgment in its favor on all claims in the matter Hawthorne Plaza, LLC v. The Charles Company. The Judgment will allow The Charles Company to continue with its landmark conversion of the former Hawthorne Mall into corporate and government offices.

DECEMBER 2002

Sherman Stacey, considered one of the West Coast's top experts on coastal legal issues, was reelected as a Director of Northern Marine, Inc. Northern Marine is a leading manufacturer of custom yachts headquartered in Anacortes, Washington.
