The Board is responsible for oversight of the California State Library and the distribution of over $50 million of State and federal funds. FEBRUARY 2004On February 17, 2004, Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at a seminar entitled "Zoning and Land Use in California." Fred spoke on current coastal land use issues and on new trends in zoning law. MARCH 2004Partner Rebecca Thompson assisted Gaines & Stacey LLP client Noram, Inc. with the closing of a $7 million purchase of prime industrial property in Richmond, California. Rebecca provided counsel regarding the complex title and environmental issues involved at the site. APRIL 2004Fred Gaines was elected to the Board of Governors of the Children's Museum of Los Angeles. The Board will oversee the construction of a new $30 Million Children's Museum at Hansen Dam in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. MAY 2004Gaines & Stacey LLP was a sponsor of the Valley Community Legal Foundation ("VCLF") 2004 Law Day Dinner. VCLF raises funds for programs including the San Fernando Valley Drug Court, Childrens and Victims Rights, and scholarships for local students. JUNE 2004Legal Assistant Tiffany Perry graduated from California State University at Northridge. Tiffany received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Tiffany has worked for Gaines & Stacey since 1998. JULY 2004Fred Gaines was named the 2004 Outstanding Volunteer Advocate at the Valley Industry and Commerce Association's Excellence in Business Awards Gala. Over 400 business and community leaders attended the event. AUGUST 2004Partner Sherman Stacey successfully represented Gaines & Stacey LLP client Chartwell Partners LLC before the California Coastal Commission. The Commission granted hotly contested Coastal Development Permits for property in the Malibu Colony. SEPTEMBER 2004Fred Gaines was honored at the Fernando Award Foundation's Annual Nomination Luncheon. The Fernando Award is the San Fernando Valley's highest award for volunteerism. Fred was nominated by the Valley Industry and Commerce Association and the San Fernando Valley Bar Association. OCTOBER 2004Associate Kimberly Rible was honored as a "Rising Star Super Lawyer" in the September 2004 issue of Los Angeles Magazine. Kim was the only San Fernando Valley attorney selected in the Environmental/Land Use Law Category. NOVEMBER 2004Fred Gaines was named the San Fernando Valley's "Best Community Executive Leader" from a small or medium sized business by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. The award was presented as part of the Business Journal's Inaugural Community Awards Reception. DECEMBER 2004Associate Alicia Bartley was selected to participate in the prestigious Urban Land Institute's ("ULI") Young Leaders Partnership Forum.
