In that role, Fred will be overseeing the planning and construction of the City's new $12 million library facility which is scheduled to open in 2007. FEBRUARY 2005Partner Lisa Weinberg successfully represented Gaines & Stacey LLP client GH Captial, LLC, in a court challenge by a neighboring property owner to a planned 112 unit senior housing development. The Court of Appeal upheld the City's approval of the project in its entirety. MARCH 2005Fred Gaines served as the Moderator for a panel discussion entitled "Land Use: The Lay of the Land in 2015." The program was part of the Second Annual San Fernando Valley Real Estate Outlook Conference sponsored by California State University, Northridge. APRIL 2005For the second year in a row, Fred Gaines was named as a Southern California "Super Lawyer" by Los Angeles Magazine. Fred was specifically honored for his expertise in the Environmental and Land Use law areas of practice. MAY 2005Gaines & Stacey LLP was a sponsor of the Valley Community Legal Foundation's 2005 Law Day Dinner. All proceeds benefitted the Foundations's grant and scholarship programs. Fred Gaines is a member of the Foundation's Board of Directors. JUNE 2005Associate Alicia Bartley was a featured speaker at the Urban Land Institute's Young Leader Partnership Forum. Alicia's presentation was entitled "Legal Issues in Urban Planning." JULY 2005Gaines & Stacey LLP client the Cohan Family Partnership, represented by Fred Gaines, received approval from the Thousand Oaks City Council for the subdivision and development of 42 new single family homes. The homes are to be built by nationally acclaimed homebuilder Centex Homes, which is also a Gaines & Stacey LLP client. AUGUST 2005Partner Sherman Stacey successfully represented the Pacific Palisades YMCA before the California Coastal Commission. The YMCA received approval for the use and development of several acres of property adjacent to their existing facility on Sunset Boulevard. SEPTEMBER 2005Associate Kimberly Rible was named a "Rising Star Super Lawyer" in the September 2005 issue of Los Angeles Magazine. This is the second year in a row that Kim was so honored. Kim was the only San Fernando Valley attorney selected in the Environmental/Land Use category. OCTOBER 2005Fred Gaines was selected as awardee of the 2005 Harmon Ballin Award for Community Service. The Award was presented at the Annual Meeting of the Valley Industry and Commerce Association. NOVEMBER 2005Gaines & Stacey LLP was a sponsor of the Valley Alliance of Neighborhood Councils' Business Issues Forum, featuring Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The purpose of the Forum is to help educate Neighborhood Councils about business and land development issues. DECEMBER 2005On December 2, 2005, Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at a seminar entitled "Real Estate Development From Beginning to End."
