JANUARY 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP Managing Partner Fred Gaines was elected President of The Executives, the San Fernando Valley's principal support group for the Los Angeles Jewish Home for the Aging. The Executives raise over $500,000.00 annually in support of the Jewish Home.

FEBRUARY 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP Founding Partner Sherman Stacey won a trial court victory in the matter of Rendenzer v. Emerald Bay Community Association. The action, brought in the Orange County Superior Court, sought to stop our clientÕs development of single family homes.

MARCH 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP client Thomas Safran & Associates, represented by Managing Partner Fred Gaines, received approval to construct 75 units of affordable senior housing in the City of Calabasas. The City Council also approved up to $1 Million of City funding for the project.

APRIL 2008

The San Fernando Valley Business Journal identified Gaines & Stacey LLP as one of the Top 25 Law Firms in the San Fernando Valley. Gaines & Stacey LLP was the only firm listed specializing in land use, zoning and environmental law matters.

MAY 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP Partner Lisa Weinberg obtained an advantageous settlement after four days of trial in the matter of Nicholas Beach v. Zen Partners LLC. The case involved disputes over easements and development rights for beachfront properties in Malibu.

JUNE 2008

Abigail Greenspan joined Gaines & Stacey LLP as our 2008 Summer Law Clerk. Abbey attends law school at the University of Southern California and is a former Planning Deputy for Los Angeles City Council Member Wendy Greuel.

Gaines & Stacey LLP Managing Partner Fred Gaines was a featured speaker at the Grand Opening Ceremony for the City of Calabasas' new $42 Million Library and Civic Center. Fred spoke in his role as President of the Calabasas Library Commission.

AUGUST 2008

Los Angeles Magazine named Gaines & Stacey LLP Associate Alicia Bartley as a 2008 Southern California Rising Star Super Lawyer. Alicia was selected in the Real Estate Law category. This was the second year in a row that Alicia received this honor.

SEPTEMBER 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP client Vons/Safeway received land use approvals for a new Pavilions Supermarket in Woodland Hills from the Los Angeles City Planning Commission. Managing Partner Fred Gaines and Associate Kimberly Rible represented Vons/Safeway before the Commission.

OCTOBER 2008

Gaines & Stacey LLP Partner Rebecca Thompson negotiated a settlement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of client California Car Hikers Service. The settlement addressed continued funding of the North Hollywood Operable Unit Groundwater Treatment Program.

Gaines & Stacey LLP Associate Nanci Stacey and her crew won the Women's Masters Quad race at the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach. The Sixth Annual Gaines & Stacey Cup was awarded to Capitol Crew of Sacramento, winners of the Men's Junior Eights race.
