Rebecca A. Thompson

Rebecca Thompson Partner and Chair of the Real Estate and Environmental Law Department of Gaines & Stacey LLP, a San Fernando Valley based law firm which specializes in land use, zoning, environmental law,  related litigation and political advocacy.  The firm, which has offices in Encino and Costa Mesa, California, provides counsel and services to developers, governmental agencies, community groups and individuals related to real estate and general business issues.

Ms. Thompson is an environmental law and real estate specialist, and has handled hundreds of matters during her distinguished legal and environmental advocacy career.  She concentrates her practice in a variety of areas, including Federal and State environmental compliance issues, real property purchase and sale transactions, leasing, and other real estate related matters.

Mrs. Thompson handles a variety of projects, including: development projects involving soil and groundwater contamination; the negotiation of real property purchase and sale agreements; the negotiation of leasing agreements and advice on landlord and tenant obligations; litigation matters involving easements and property boundary disputes; litigation groundwater remediation cases including CERCLA, RCRA and common law claims; and environmental due diligence.

Ms. Thompson is admitted to practice before the California State Bar, and various Federal Courts including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, and the United States District Courts for the Central, Northern and Southern Districts. Ms. Thompson has been on the Board of Directors for the Valley Community Healthcare, and is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association – Environmental Law Section.   Ms. Thompson has written on various real estate and environmental issues, including  “Come Clean – Owner Must Notify Appropriate Parties of Contamination,” “Fund Raising – Legislative Relief for Underground Storage Tank Cleanup,” and several other publications.

A native of Southern California, Ms. Thompson obtained her bachelor of arts degree in Economics from University of Southern California.  She also studied Economics in Cambridge England.  She then received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Notre Dame School of Law.  Prior to her partnership at Gaines & Stacey, LLP, Ms. Thompson was an associate with the law firm of Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble & Mallory.
